Artist's Description

Pulelehua is butterfly in Hawaiian. And as this is the Rainbow State, I called this painting Rainbow Buttefly. It took me several tries before I was able to achieve the color fusion and abstraction. Butterfly wings are quite transparent, so I used light colors for a sense of movement and airiness on a clean white background.

Frances Ku

Frances has been drawing since three years of age. Born in Taiwan and raised in Okinawa, she took art classes throughout high school and went to Parsons School of Design in New York City for a year. She also went back to Taiwan and drew political cartoons for a daily newspaper. Her desire to create beauty eventually led her to Maui, Hawaii. At 32 years old, she finally began painting full time by teaching herself watercolors. Watercoloring for her has been a lesson in respecting the element of water and being a co-creating partner to the dance.
