Artist's Description

Jeweled rocks were created from quick dabs at the surface with a paint-drenched brush. The sun highlights the churning waters swirling about her. Empress of the Sea was inspired from battling with five (they seemed more like eight!) foot waves one October day with my sister in strong currents off Fleming Beach, Maui.

Almost a decade later, this was used as the cover album for a jazz band in Oakland, California called Liquid Girlfriend. The original is framed in koa wood, hanging in a home in the Netherlands.

Empress of the Sea, Copyright 1999
Original is 18″ X 24″ Watercolor on 140 lb Strathmore, Cold Press
